LSU moved up another spot this week in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll, dropping in at No. 7 in Sunday's release after a 45-14 win at home over Louisiana Tech. The Tigers improved to 2-0 on the season.
It's the second straight week that LSU has moved up in the rankings. The Tigers opened the year ranked No. 11 in the preseason poll, then vaulted into the top 10 with a dominant win over Clemson in Week one that pushed them from No. 11 to No. 8. Now, after taking care of business against Louisiana Tech, they've climbed one more spot to No. 7.
Lane Kiffin's first season in Baton Rouge is off to about as strong a start as fans could have imagined, with the offense, led by Arizona State transfer quarterback Sam Leavitt, putting up points in bunches through two games. LSU has already put up 96 points on the season.
The schedule doesn't get any easier. LSU heads into a top 10 showdown next Saturday against No. 8 Ole Miss, a game that could go a long way in shaping how the rest of the Tigers' season plays out. Their College Football Playoff positioning could take shape if LSU can come out of Oxford with a win.
With Texas A&M, Alabama, Texas, and a trip to Tennessee still on the board later this fall, this week's Ole Miss matchup is the first real test of the season for LSU. For Kiffin, he's got a Tigers team that has, so far, answered every question asked of it.
