LSU is back inside the top 10. The Tigers moved up one spot to No. 10 in the Week 6 AP Top 25 Poll, sitting at 4-1 with 1,087 poll points. They moved up a spot from No. 11 last week. The coaches agreed. LSU also rose to No. 10 in the US Coaches Poll.
The margins around the Tigers are extremely close. No. 9 Ole Miss sits a spot above LSU, while No. 11 Texas Tech trails from a spot behind. That puts the Tigers right on the edge of the top 10 conversation every week, with very little room for error.
It’s been an up-and-down ride through the polls in Kiffin’s first season. LSU opened the season at No. 11, jumped to No. 8 after the 51-10 rout of Clemson, rose to No. 7, then fell after a 32-24 loss at Ole Miss. Since then, the Tigers have stacked wins and been slowly climbing back.
The SEC continues to own the top of the poll, with Texas at No. 1, Georgia at No. 2, Alabama at No. 6 and Ole Miss at No. 9 joining LSU in the top 10.
LSU hits the road Saturday at Kentucky, a team that just dropped out of the AP Top 25 but still received 160 votes. After that, the Tigers return home to face Mississippi State on October 17th, who is currently ranked No. 17. With Alabama, Texas and Tennessee still ahead on the schedule, every week from here carries real playoff weight.
